Why do people engage in GOSSIP?
1.THEY WANT TO FEEL BETTER. nothing could make someone feel better faster than hearing a story about someone else's misfortunes. people who are feeling bad about themselves feel better if there were someone else worse than they are. knowing about other people's miserable lives makes them forget their own.
2.THEY SEEK ATTENTION. when a gossiper learns about a secret that nobody else knows, he would jump at the earliest opportunity to be the first person to dish out the details to the group. he enjoys the attention bestowed to him and loves every moment of it.
3.THEY FEEL THE NEED TO BELONG. if everybody else is gossiping or spreading rumors, one might feel he has to do the same thing in order to fit in and be a part of the group.
4.THEY'RE BORED. sometimes, some people think that when everyone is happy and getting along, life seems dull, tedious, and uninteresting. spreading juicy dish might shake things up a bit, or get two people to start fighting, stir up some activity, and that would surely make life a little more exciting! after all, isn't this what makes those tabloid newspapers sell and those TV shows full of celebrity gossip rate?
5.THEY'RE JEALOUS/ENVIOUS. gossipers, generally, suffer from low self-esteem and they easily feel threaten by someone else's loos, popularity, talent, or money. and the most convenient way to deal with such is to find ways to put the others down by concocting stories that would surely hurt their object of envy.
--> Chances are, rumors and gossips are always floating around the school or community. That's totally normal. After all, everyone gossips - parents, teachers, celebrities, politicians and EVEN ME MAKES A GOSSIP. It's part of how we communicate and stay connected with other people's lives.
--> "ONE CAN CHANGE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A GOSSIP COMES ALONG."
--so the next time you are confronted with The Big G, ask yourself these question:
SHOULD I EVEN LISTEN TO THIS?
(try not to be an audience esp. if you're bored, but make an effort to say, "NO"!)
